Very few people go and ask their manager, 'What can I do to help you? What do you need?' And so just asking sets you apart.
Ask for help early and often - it sets you apart
Leadership → Stakeholder Management
If you don't ask for help, there's so many times where you're just going to be sitting there with your problems. Whatever you have in your mind is just not the global best thing and you have to go ask for help.
The advice I find I have to give more frequently than any other in my career, as a manager, a board member, an advisor and a friend, is for people to more directly leverage their leaders.
Nobody wants you to be more awesome than your manager does, because when you're amazing, your manager, his life gets easier, her life gets easier.
Managers help those who help them. It's just human nature. We all do that.
